When Rango first joined his new (forever) family, he was very worried, anxious and not very confident. He couldn't tolerate touch, was terrified of the car and pulled a lot on walks. When we started working with him, it was clear that he hadn't had much training and got overwhelmed quickly. So we took it slow and met him where he was. We reduced the length of his walks to keep his excitement levels under control and kept training sessions super short and stopped well before he hit threshold.
Rangos owner really listens to his body language, keeps an eye out for when he's getting overwhelmed and takes action to support him where he's at.
Now, he's very affectionate, seeks out comfort, is getting closer to the car everyday and is pulling less on his walks. They still have a long journey to support each other but they have the skills needed to continue on the road to success.
"As a family we adopted a highly anxious rescue dog with no known history. It was evident from day one that Rango had been through a lot and did not have many coping mechanisms to deal with life. It was always clear he was a loving dog. You could see this in him, but even for the first 2 weeks he lived with us, he could not cope with any physical contact and was frightened of everything.
Steph has supported him and us to increase his confidence and ability to manage life without being overly overwhelmed. He has absolutely thrived since Steph started working with us to support him. Her understanding of him has been what he needs and far exceeded any expectations I had.
He is so much happier in life. His loving, fun and cheeky personality really show through everything he's been through. He copes with affection, physical touch, pulling less on walks, and just generally dealing with the unexpected! We still have a long way to go but Steph's support has been invaluable.
Thank you for everything!"
